How long have you been doing it? When did you first start?<br /><br />For example, I have been swimming to keep fit for about 12 years. I learnt to swim when I was 8 years old but I lived a long way from a pool so I didn't go often. When I came back to new Zealand after travelling overseas, I decided to take some lessons. I really improved my breathing and strength and was able to swim for ages without stopping. That year I swam from Rangitoto Island to St Heliers in a race that is held every summer. It's about four and a half kilometers and took me almost 2 hours! Since then I have done that swim about 5 times. the fastest I have done it was one and a half hours.
